The Oakridge West Community Association came into being in 1964. In 1996 a Nissen Hut was procured and erected adjoining and linked to the Community Centre to provide facilities for a tea bar and weekly medical centre. Later in response to members requests a license to sell alcohol was obtained and the bar was open to members on 4 nights a week. In 1989 BDBC replaced the now ageing hut with a purpose-built social club building, this was opened in 1990. In 2018 Oakridge West converted their charitable status to that of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
